Dhadak 2 Review: Upper Caste People Called The Film Bad | Siddhant Chaturvedi Tripti Dimri
In the age of social media and instant reactions, very few films generate such polarized responses as this latest release starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. Touted initially as a bold sequel or thematic successor to Dhadak, the film attempts to combine a social message with a romantic narrative—but it seems to have landed somewhere in the middle, satisfying some while frustrating others.
Let’s explore what the film tried to achieve, and why audience reception has been so dramatically split.
A Love Story Rooted in Casteism
The central plot revolves around an inter-caste love story. Siddhant Chaturvedi plays a young man from a lower caste background, while Triptii Dimri portrays a woman from a privileged class. The film clearly aims to raise a mirror to societal divisions that persist in many parts of India, particularly caste-based discrimination, violence, and ostracization.
While this subject has previously been handled with nuance and emotional weight in films like Sairat and, to some extent, Dhadak, viewers feel this one falters. Some audience members appreciated the intent behind tackling casteism, especially through visual metaphors and powerful scenes (like the controversial urination and mud-throwing sequence), but others felt the execution lacked conviction.
One viewer commented that casteism “no longer holds relevance” in today’s world, calling the film’s theme outdated. However, another countered by stating that such incidents are still a harsh reality in rural India, and the film deserves credit for portraying them with some raw honesty.
Siddhant Chaturvedi: Star or Miscast?
Siddhant Chaturvedi, who rose to fame with Gully Boy, was expected to make a strong mark with this role. But reviews are mixed. Some criticized his casting as a slum boy, saying his fair skin and urban image don’t fit the part, even accusing the film of inconsistent makeup and visual continuity. Others appreciated his effort, calling it his “most immersive performance” since Inside Edge and Gehraiyaan.
A particularly strong supporter of Chaturvedi noted how convincing he looked in his costumes and character—his body language, speech, and expressions aligning well with the life of a marginalized man trying to survive love and society.
Triptii Dimri: Misfit or Evolving Lead?
Triptii Dimri, known for her powerful guest role in Animal, takes center stage here. While some praised her emotional range and screen presence, others felt she was either “overacting” or simply too mature-looking to be paired with Siddhant, calling the chemistry “unconvincing.” One viewer even remarked that she looked more like an older sister than a romantic lead.
Nevertheless, her performance did have moments of impact, especially toward the end of the film, where her emotional breakdown reportedly brought silence to the theater.
Direction and Editing: Missed Opportunities
Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the film’s direction has come under fire. While some praised her vision and bravery in choosing this subject, others found the execution lacking. Many viewers called the cinematography “dry,” the editing “lazy,” and the narrative “monotonous and scattered.”
There were repeated mentions of poor scene transitions, inconsistent lighting, and background score failing to uplift key moments. Viewers criticized how certain emotionally loaded scenes felt randomly inserted without proper buildup or payoff. One said, “So many editors, yet no sharp storytelling.”
Interestingly, one viewer blamed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for the film’s weaker second half, claiming that over 28 major cuts diluted the story and removed some of its emotional weight.
Music: A Letdown
With composers like Rochak Kohli and Tanishk Bagchi on board, expectations were high. Unfortunately, the soundtrack fell flat for most viewers. The much-loved Dhadak title track, which many hoped would be reprised, appears only briefly and disappointingly. Background scores were labeled “forgettable” and failed to evoke the intended emotions.
Still, a few mentioned that songs did help connect emotionally in parts of the film, and Jubin Nautiyal’s track stood out, albeit briefly.
Mixed Audience Verdicts: From 1 to 4.5 Stars
This film has probably one of the widest star-rating gaps from its audience. Some called it a “waste of time and money,” urging viewers to avoid it and instead re-watch Sairat or Dhadak. Others were more moderate, calling it a “one-time watch” for the social theme. And a small but passionate group of viewers found it meaningful and powerful, awarding it as high as 4.5 stars.
One enthusiastic viewer summed it up by saying: “This is a film that tried to say something bold. Not everything landed, but Siddhant deserves praise for daring to take it on. Watch it once at least.”
Final Thoughts
The film’s greatest strength is also its greatest weakness: ambition. It aims to be a love story with a social conscience, but struggles to balance the two. The direction wavers, the music underdelivers, and the performances, while earnest, lack the chemistry and cohesion that a film like this demands.
This is not the next Sairat, and it certainly doesn’t match the mass-appeal of Dhadak, but it is a film that might resonate with a niche audience who value story over gloss.
