Gurugram Police Arrest Assistant Manager for Obscene Act Against Model at Rajiv Chowk
Gurugram Police have apprehended the man accused of committing an obscene act in broad daylight against a model at Rajiv Chowk—an incident that sparked widespread outrage on social media. The accused, Abhilash Kumar, a 32-year-old assistant manager at a private company in Gurugram, was earning ₹14 lakh annually and holds an M.Tech degree in Civil Engineering from a private institution.
The incident occurred on August 2, when the victim, a model, was waiting for a cab at Rajiv Chowk. According to reports, the accused approached her wearing a mask and, in the middle of the road, began behaving in a lewd manner—unfastening his trousers and exposing himself. Despite the model’s attempts to seek help, no one intervened. She later recorded a video of the incident, posted it on social media, and explained that she was forced to do so after not receiving help from the police when she first contacted them.
The video quickly went viral and received widespread attention. Following the public outcry, the Gurugram Police launched an investigation, registering a case and reviewing hundreds of CCTV footages. Although the accused had covered his face and the act took place in an area with limited camera coverage, police were eventually able to identify and trace Abhilash Kumar to a rented apartment in Gurugram’s Sector 11. He was arrested from Sector 49 after a detailed technical investigation.
Police revealed that after dropping his son at school, Abhilash returned to Rajiv Chowk, where he committed the act. It was a challenge for the authorities to identify him, as he had hidden his face and the crime scene lacked CCTV cameras. The police are now interrogating him to determine whether he has committed similar actions in the past and are in contact with Karnal police, as Abhilash hails from Karnal, Haryana, to check for any previous criminal records.
During questioning, Abhilash confessed to being present at the scene and admitted to his involvement in the incident. Police have sent him to court for remand and will continue their investigation to uncover any further offenses.
Authorities have urged the public to always contact the police helpline number 112 in case of emergencies, promising that a response unit will arrive within 7 to 8 minutes.
The case serves as a reminder that even in cases where the accused believes they can evade justice with masks and a lack of direct evidence, diligent police work and social media awareness can lead to their arrest. Police are appealing to the public to circulate verified information and contact authorities when needed.
