Devendra Yadav: The Unsung Hero Behind Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Rights Yatra in Bihar
Chhattisgarh Congress MLA Devendra Yadav has emerged as the unsung hero of the recently concluded Voter Rights Yatra led by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in Bihar. While the limelight was on Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, and Akhilesh Yadav, it was Devendra Yadav who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the success of the campaign.
The yatra, which ended with Rahul Gandhi’s “hydrogen bomb” remark, saw massive participation and enthusiasm, especially in its final days. Akhilesh Yadav’s arrival in Arrah a day before the conclusion added momentum, but it was the relentless efforts of the party workers, led by Devendra Yadav, that truly made the event memorable.
Devendra Yadav, who is not just any ordinary party worker but a sitting MLA from Bhilai Nagar, Chhattisgarh, was appointed as the in-charge of the yatra in Bihar. His dedication and energy became a talking point, with viral videos showing him everywhere Rahul Gandhi went—whether hanging onto open jeeps, clearing crowds like a traffic cop, or running on the streets to manage the event.
Unlike others who might have used their position to seek attention, Yadav remained focused on his responsibilities, ensuring smooth coordination at every stage, from the streets to the stage. He was even seen leading slogans against “vote thieves” and urging for change from the platform.
Throughout the yatra, Devendra Yadav shared photos with Rahul Gandhi on social media, and after the successful conclusion, he posted a heartfelt “Back to Home” message on Facebook.
**Who is Devendra Yadav?**
Devendra Yadav is recognized as a prominent young leader in the Chhattisgarh Congress. He is considered close to former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and is known for his grassroots connect from Durg to Raipur. Yadav has held various positions, including President of Durg NSUI (2009-2011), State Election Officer for NSUI (2011), State Secretary of NSUI (2011-2014), and Mayor of Bhilai Municipal Corporation in 2016. He has twice won the Bhilai Nagar Assembly seat, defeating senior BJP leader Prem Prakash Pandey.
In 2024, Yadav contested the Bilaspur Lok Sabha seat but was defeated by BJP’s Tokhan Sahu. Despite this setback, his reputation as a dynamic youth leader remains intact, with a strong following in Durg, Bhilai, and other districts of Chhattisgarh.
Devendra Yadav’s journey from student politics to state leadership showcases his dedication and ability to mobilize support. His efforts during the Voter Rights Yatra have set a new benchmark for political activism, fulfilling the expectations Rahul Gandhi had from him and earning widespread appreciation.
