Jharkhand Mourns the Loss of Veteran Leader Shibu Soren

Jharkhand is in mourning after the passing of Shibu Soren, the legendary political leader widely known as ‘Dishom Guru’, who dedicated his life to advocating for the rights and protection of the country’s tribal communities. Soren passed away at the age of 81 after a prolonged illness, leaving behind a legacy rooted in decades of public service and leadership.

On Monday, Shibu Soren breathed his last at around 8 AM, after battling multiple health issues, including kidney disease and complications from a recent brain stroke. He had been undergoing treatment at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi for nearly a month, where he was admitted on 19th June 2025. Despite brief periods of improvement, his health worsened, and he was ultimately placed on a ventilator before passing away.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, visibly emotional upon his father’s passing, addressed the media for the first time since the tragedy. He shared, “It feels as if the protective shade over us has vanished. Words cannot express the pain I am feeling at the loss of such a great person. He will always remain in our memories.”

The impact of Shibu Soren’s passing has reverberated throughout India. Numerous political leaders have arrived in Jharkhand to offer their condolences and pay respects, including Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who visited Hemant Soren to personally offer comfort, along with heartfelt tributes from others across the political spectrum.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid his respects at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, offering condolences and support to the grieving family. The scenes were marked by poignant moments as leaders from all backgrounds came together to honor Soren’s enduring contributions to Indian society.

In recognition of his service and legacy, Jharkhand has declared a three-day period of official mourning. The news of Soren’s passing has sparked a wave of grief throughout the state, with countless people remembering him as a guiding force who tirelessly championed the causes of the marginalized.
