Major Bridge Collapse in Gujarat: Several Vehicles Plunge into River, Multiple Fatalities Reported

A major tragedy struck Gujarat on Wednesday morning when the Gambhira Bridge, connecting Vadodara and Anand districts over the Mahisagar River, collapsed near Padra. The 45-year-old bridge, a crucial link between the two districts, gave way at around 8:00 AM, sending several vehicles plunging into the river below.

According to initial reports, at least nine people have lost their lives in the incident. Among the vehicles involved were a truck, an Eco car, and several motorcycles, all of which fell into the river as the bridge collapsed. A tanker truck narrowly escaped falling and was seen precariously hanging from the broken edge of the bridge.

Upon receiving news of the collapse, local authorities and disaster response teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), rushed to the scene and immediately began rescue operations. Efforts are underway to prevent the tanker from falling and to ensure the safety of rescue personnel working below.

Vadodara and Anand district administrations are coordinating the rescue and relief operations, with police, fire services, and NDRF teams all actively involved. The immediate focus remains on saving lives and managing traffic disruptions. Alternative routes are being arranged to minimize inconvenience to commuters.

The collapsed bridge was a vital structure spanning the Mahisagar River, connecting Gambhira village and serving as a key route between Anand and Vadodara. As rescue efforts continue, authorities are also working to assess the cause of the collapse and ensure the safety of other similar structures in the region.
