Akhilesh Yadav Steps In to Help Critically Ill Daughter of Shiksha Mitra in Lucknow

Akhilesh Yadav, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and leader of the Samajwadi Party, has come forward to help save the life of Vartika, a schoolgirl who has been battling between life and death in Lucknow. The teenager, daughter of a Shiksha Mitra (contract teacher), is undergoing treatment at PGI Hospital, Lucknow, while her family struggles with severe financial hardships.

Vartika, who is in the ninth grade, suddenly fell gravely ill, prompting numerous visits to various local doctors and hospitals. When her condition deteriorated further, she was rushed to PGI, where doctors diagnosed her with a serious throat infection requiring urgent and expensive treatment. The family, already burdened with medical bills and relying on a modest monthly income—her mother earns just ₹10,000 working as a Shiksha Mitra, while her father gives private tuitions—quickly ran out of savings.

With nowhere else to turn, Vartika’s elder sister Vanshika (a student of Class 12) reached out to journalists and prominent leaders on social media, desperately seeking help. The message soon gained attention as Rajeev Rai, an MP from the Samajwadi Party, responded, promising full support and relaying the distress call directly to Akhilesh Yadav.

Taking immediate action, Akhilesh Yadav ordered his team to provide every possible assistance to Vartika and her family. Since then, the Samajwadi Party’s team has remained in close contact with the family, ensuring that the girl receives the medical care she needs without any further obstacles.

However, this case has raised important questions about Uttar Pradesh’s public health system and the well-being of underprivileged communities, like those of Shiksha Mitras. Many families struggle to access timely medical treatment due to inadequate facilities and the lengthy process just to get a doctor’s appointment at major government hospitals like PGI. Critics argue that the government should introduce special schemes for low-income groups and contract teachers to ensure they get prompt and affordable healthcare.

While the state’s health infrastructure and government’s promises have come under scrutiny, Akhilesh Yadav’s timely intervention has given hope to Vartika’s family. He is being hailed as a savior for stepping in during their time of utmost need.
