Bhojpuri Star Pawan Singh Steps In to Help Flood-Hit Jamaniya Village Amidst Systemic Neglect

The heart-wrenching situation in Jamaniya, a village in Bihar’s Shahpur block, has captured widespread attention as heavy erosion by the Ganga river has swallowed more than 700 homes. Numerous social workers, local leaders, and public figures have visited the area to distribute aid and document the devastation. Journalists like Manish Kashyap, who also hails from Bihar, arrived to create awareness, noting that while he could not solve people’s problems with a magic wand, spreading their stories could mobilize help.

Among the most notable visitors was Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh, who is originally from the same district and had promised the villagers that he would visit with a bang. True to his word, Pawan Singh prioritized practical aid over publicity. Rather than handing out cash or food like others, he arranged two truckloads of bamboo and hundreds of tarpaulins to help families build temporary shelters, understanding that the displaced needed immediate relief after losing their homes.

Bamboo, it turns out, was a much-needed but overlooked commodity—essential for building tents, yet difficult to procure amidst the official red tape and slow government relief, which only starts after at least three feet of flooding and rarely provides sufficient support when it arrives. Pawan Singh’s initiative highlights the urgent needs of affected villagers and exposes both the inadequacy and sluggishness of government disaster response, which has done little more than distribute basic meals like khichdi three times a day.

However, Singh’s arrival in Jamaniya created such a sensation that massive crowds gathered to see him and document his visit on video, to the point that he was unable to move forward with the distribution. Even reaching the village is now nearly impossible, as the rising waters have cut off road access and continue to threaten the few remaining structures. Many villagers have taken shelter on nearby embankments, and volunteers from across Bihar—such as youth leader Nagesh Samrat from Patna—are also providing critical assistance.

Pawan Singh stands out as the only major Bhojpuri celebrity who has taken on a direct, practical role in supporting the villagers, without seeking political gain—though speculation remains about a possible political future. As millions have watched the videos of Jamaniya’s plight, the lack of any robust intervention from either the state or central government remains glaring.

For now, villagers can only count on individuals and grassroots efforts for help. What do you think about Pawan Singh’s gesture, and about the government’s response to Bihar’s flood-affected villages? Let us know your views in the comments.
