Bhojpuri Star Pawan Singh Steps Up to Support Flood-Hit Village in Bihar

The recent viral video from Jamania, a village in the Shahpur block of Bhojpur district, Bihar, has brought much-needed attention to the devastating floods caused by the Ganges river. Over 700 homes have already been swallowed by the river, leaving hundreds of families without shelter. While many politicians, activists, and influencers like Manish Kashyap have visited and distributed relief items, the government’s aid has remained slow and largely inadequate, with compensation often delayed until families have lost almost everything.

Renowned Bhojpuri singer and actor Pawan Singh, originally from the same region, had earlier promised the people of Jamania a grand arrival. Though news of his visit sparked excitement, Pawan Singh went beyond the traditional gestures of distributing biscuits and food; he focused on what the community truly needed. Understanding that flood victims urgently require building materials for temporary shelters, he arranged for two truckloads of bamboo poles and around 700-800 tarpaulins to be delivered to the villagers before his own arrival.

While basic government compensation starts at a mere ₹6,000 and is tied to strict eligibility rules, the community’s real need was immediate and practical help. With homes already washed away, bamboo and tarpaulins were vital for constructing makeshift tents and giving displaced families a roof over their heads.

Unfortunately, Pawan Singh’s much-anticipated visit drew such massive crowds of fans and onlookers eager to capture videos and photos that he was unable to reach the village center. Meanwhile, the situation on the ground continued to worsen: the main access road to Jamania has been cut off by floodwaters, and most of the remaining houses are likely to collapse soon. Many villagers have sought shelter on embankments, surviving on daily meals distributed by local authorities.

In this dire environment, many political hopefuls and influencers have shown up with symbolic donations, while young volunteers from Patna, like Nagesh Samrat, have stepped in to offer genuine, hands-on support for the suffering families. Pawan Singh’s efforts stand out because, as a non-political figure, he chose to offer meaningful, practical relief—not for votes or publicity, but for the welfare of his people.

Despite the attention brought by millions of views on viral videos, neither the state nor the central government has proposed any long-term or decisive action to save Jamania. For now, local heroes like Pawan Singh are making a difference where official relief has fallen short.
