Bomb Threats and Plane Crash Hoax: The Shocking Story of a ‘Cyber Queen’ from Chennai
On June 3, 2025, security agencies across India were thrown into panic after receiving an alarming email claiming that a bomb had been planted at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The message read: “A bomb has been planted at Narendra Modi Stadium. Save it if you can.” The authorities immediately went on high alert.
This was not the only threat. Several similar emails followed, including one threatening to blow up a medical college that had recently witnessed an Air India plane crash. Police and anti-terror agencies launched a massive hunt for the sender.

Days later, an Air India aircraft crashed near the very medical college that had received the bomb threat. Another email arrived soon after, boasting, “Now you understand our power. Today, as per yesterday’s email, we have crashed the Air India plane. We know police must have ignored our warning as a hoax. Well done, our pilot. Now you know we were not playing games.”
These chilling messages sent shockwaves through security agencies. The sender was not just targeting Gujarat but had issued similar threats to 12 states across India. Police forces in all these states were searching for the culprit, but the hunt seemed fruitless.
Eventually, a small digital mistake led investigators to their suspect: Reni Yoshida, a seemingly innocent young woman working as a robotics engineer at a multinational company in Chennai. Reni, highly skilled in technology, was driven by an obsessive love for a man named Divij Prabhakar. Her love, however, was one-sided. When Divij married another woman in February 2025, Reni’s heartbreak turned into a quest for revenge.
Reni devised a digital plan to get back at her former lover. She created fake email IDs using Divij’s name, used virtual numbers, VPAs, and the dark web to send over 21 bomb threat emails across the country—from Uttar Pradesh to Kerala, Delhi to Ahmedabad. She targeted schools, religious sites, VIP events, and even the Narendra Modi Stadium and BJ Medical College.

After the Air India crash, suspicion and fear among agencies intensified. The Gujarat Cyber Crime Branch and Special Cell formed a joint team and tracked Reni for months. Despite her cunning, one small digital slip exposed her. The team reached Chennai, arrested her at her home, and recovered a trove of fake emails, digital devices, and other evidence.
