Chaos in Dehradun: House Dispute Turns Ugly in Bima Vihar, Residents and Police Involved

Dehradun, Uttarakhand – Tensions ran high in the Bima Vihar area of Dehradun, just 5-6 kilometers from Sahastradhara, as a heated dispute erupted over a rented house. The situation escalated to the point where both the police and local residents had to intervene.

According to reports, a family had rented a house in Bima Vihar and paid a token amount as advance. However, things took a dramatic turn when the tenants accused the property dealer of threatening them and even spraying a harmful substance inside the house. The tenants claim they paid ₹4,500 as token money and an additional ₹50,000 about 15-20 days ago. Receipts and an agreement were supposed to be provided, but the agreement was never finalized, leading to further complications.

The situation worsened when the tenants alleged that the dealer tried to force them out and demanded more money. Meanwhile, the property owner insisted that the tenants pay ₹500 before vacating the house, arguing that they had already stayed for a month without paying rent.

Local residents, including the colony secretary P.C. Kandwapal, expressed their frustration, stating that the tenants kept five to six dogs in the house, which barked all night, disturbing the peace of the neighborhood. Residents also complained about foul smells and unsanitary conditions, as the dogs were kept inside and not taken out for walks.

When neighbors objected, the tenants allegedly responded with abuse and refused to cooperate, further escalating tensions. The property owner denied allegations of taking ₹4 lakh in cash, stating, “I am neither the owner nor the caretaker—I only showed them the house. They have falsely accused me and even filed a case against me in court.”

As the standoff continued, police arrived on the scene to mediate. The tenants agreed to vacate the house, but questions remain about when this will actually happen, as they have already stayed for nearly half a month beyond the agreed date.

The situation remains unresolved, with both sides accusing each other of dishonesty and legal cases now pending in court. Local authorities are monitoring the issue, hoping for a peaceful resolution.
