The girl, Gulbasa Khatoon, had died due to smallpox. Her father, Bismillah Ansari, was working in Mumbai. When he received news of his daughter’s health deteriorating, he immediately returned to Gorakhpur. Despite efforts to save her at a local hospital, Gulbasa passed away on the morning of July 19 and was buried in the village cemetery that same day.

However, on the morning of July 21, the entire village was thrown into turmoil when a villager noticed that the grave appeared to have been disturbed, with the soil dug up and the grave left open. Upon closer inspection, the grave was found empty, and the girl’s body was missing. The matter was immediately reported to the police, who arrived on the scene with a forensic team and began a search operation within a 200-meter radius.

Shockingly, the body of the young girl was found naked about 100 meters away, near the premises of an abandoned mobile tower. Masood Khan, the first person to find the body, described the horrifying scene, saying, “I saw her leg first and got scared. There were some clothes lying nearby, and the body was already being eaten by insects.”

While some locals and police suspect the incident may be linked to occult practices, the girl’s father strongly refutes such beliefs and appeals for justice, expressing his trust in the law.

Recounting the tragic sequence, Mr. Ansari said, “My daughter had a fever. I was in Mumbai at the time, and when I heard she was sick on the 15th, I came to Gorakhpur on the 17th. She passed away in the early hours of the 19th. It’s been three days since we buried her, and now this has happened. I have no suspicion against anyone; I only hope the law does its work and we get justice.”

The police are investigating the matter seriously, gathering forensic evidence and questioning locals. Officials assured that all possible angles are being examined and appropriate legal action is underway. Peace has been maintained in the village as the investigation continues.

This tragic and shocking event casts a harsh light on prevailing superstitions, insensitivity, and lapses in security in rural societies. The authorities have promised a thorough probe, with updates expected soon as more information comes to light.
