Chirag Paswan and Family Celebrate Chhath Mahaparv in Patna

Patna, Bihar – Beautiful scenes unfolded today as Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party National President Chirag Paswan arrived to offer ‘Arghya’ to the rising sun with his family, marking the conclusion of the sacred Chhath Mahaparv. Carrying a decorated bamboo basket (‘daura’) on his head, Chirag Paswan joined his family members at a specially prepared ghat inside the LJP office in Patna.

The Chhath festival, a four-day event, begins with ‘Nahay Khay’ and progresses through ‘Kharna’, followed by the evening offering (‘arghya’) to the setting sun, and culminates with the morning offering to the rising sun. Devotees, especially women, observe a strict fast for almost three days, abstaining even from water, and break their fast only after the final rituals.

Today, as the first rays of the sun appeared, the Paswan family, including Chirag’s mother, aunt, and children, gathered at the ghat. The area was beautifully decorated with lights and traditional motifs, reflecting the festive spirit. Chirag Paswan, fully prepared for the occasion, assisted the women in his family, carrying the daura and helping with the arrangements.

As the rituals began, each basket was adorned with an oil lamp, and offerings included sugarcane, coconut, papaya, pineapple, apples, bananas, and other natural items. The most special item was ‘Thekua’, a traditional sweet, which holds a unique place in Chhath celebrations.

The atmosphere was filled with devotional Chhath songs, an essential part of the festival. Within minutes, the sun’s first light appeared, and the devotees offered Arghya, completing the festival’s final ritual.

The Chhath festival is unique in its simplicity—there are no priests, no elaborate mantras, only devotion to the Sun God and nature. All offerings are natural and homemade, symbolizing purity and gratitude to the elements.

Chirag Paswan’s participation highlighted the importance of family and tradition in the festival. The ghat at the LJP office became a center of celebration and devotion, with the entire family coming together to honor the age-old rituals.

As the festival concluded, the sense of joy and community was palpable, with everyone sharing in the happiness and blessings of Chhath Mahaparv.
