Devoleena Bhattacharjee’s Seven-Month-Old Son Targeted by Trolls Over Skin Colour After First Public Photo
Yesterday, social media witnessed a shocking display of insensitivity after popular television actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee, best known for her role as ‘Gopi Bahu’ on TV, shared the first glimpse of her seven-month-old son. Rather than receiving congratulations, the comments section was flooded with racist and derogatory remarks targeting the child’s skin colour.
Many users stooped to unacceptable levels, posting comments such as, “Whose strange-looking, dark-skinned child is this? Why is he so dark? Looks like a South African!” The infant was even dubbed “Kalua beta,” with his appearance becoming the target of relentless online hate. Such harsh comments against a newborn have left fans and netizens deeply disturbed.
Devoleena married her gym trainer, Shahnawaz Sheikh, in 2022. At the time, internet users had also mocked her husband’s looks. In December last year, the couple welcomed their first child. Until now, Devoleena had chosen to keep her baby away from the public eye. However, on the occasion of her son turning seven months old, she decided to share his pictures for the first time.
Along with the photos, Devoleena wrote a heartfelt caption: “It’s been seven months since I brought my heart out of my body. From the tiny fingers wrapping around my heart to the sleepless nights filled with cuddles—every moment has been truly magical. You’ve turned my world into a gentle, beautiful chaos from which I never wish to escape. Keep growing along with me—every laugh, every hug, every milestone. You, my darling, are my biggest journey.”
Regrettably, her touching post was marred by a barrage of cruel comments. Some trolls compared the child’s appearance to his father, while others made appalling remarks about his complexion and looks, suggesting this was the reason Devoleena had hidden him until now. One user commented, “He looks just like his father,” while another wrote, “How ugly.” There were also deeply racist comments, and some even questioned why she hadn’t covered him with a protective mark (as per certain Indian traditions).
Thankfully, many fans and well-wishers also spoke up for Devoleena’s child, calling him cute and sending their love to the actress and her family.
Devoleena, who faced backlash and taunts even at the time of her wedding, has continued to move forward happily with her husband. Despite repeated trolling and negativity, she appears to be enjoying her family life.
