Dharmendra: The Fearless Legend of Bollywood and Punjab

Dharmendra, the iconic son of Bollywood and Punjab, is renowned across India for his tales of bravery. As strong as he is in real life, Dharmendra has always chosen roles that reflect his real-life persona. In his native village in Punjab, his influence remains unmatched, and wherever he goes, a large entourage follows him. Known for his kindness and generosity, Dharmendra is considered powerful not just for his fame, but for his willingness to help others.

Currently, Dharmendra is unwell and recovering with his family. Despite his health, the stories of his courage continue to circulate, making his legend all the more famous. Recently, Satyajeet Puri, a close family friend who has worked with Sunny Deol in many films like “Arjun” and “Ghayal,” shared a fascinating anecdote. He revealed that during the era when the underworld was at its peak in the 1990s, many top actors would flee in fear, and some would even perform at Dawood Ibrahim’s events to stay on his good side. But Dharmendra was never intimidated by the underworld. Despite repeated attempts, the underworld could never break Dharmendra’s spirit; in fact, they ended up surrendering before him.

According to Satyajeet Puri, the underworld was extremely powerful at the time. A call from them was enough to instill fear in anyone. But Dharmendra’s family never backed down. Dharmendra would boldly tell them, “If you come here, the whole Sahnewal village from Punjab will arrive.” Sahnewal, his hometown, was like his army. He would say on the phone, “You may have ten men, but I have a whole army. If I call, truckloads of people from Punjab will come. Don’t try to mess with me.” This fearless attitude often scared the underworld away, and they chose not to confront him.

There was even an incident where a fan attacked Dharmendra with a knife. Dharmendra quickly subdued the attacker, further cementing his reputation for physical strength and bravery. Satyajeet Puri notes that today’s actors walk around with six armed bodyguards, fearing for their safety. But back then, Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna would roam freely, unafraid of any threat.

Even today, Dharmendra, along with his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, are considered brave and strong. At nearly 90 years old, Dharmendra continues to fight life’s battles with resilience. Despite rumors and false news about his health and death, Dharmendra has never feared death, nor does he now. He is not one to leave this world easily. We all hope Dharmendra recovers soon and continues to share his legendary stories of courage with the world.
