Double Tragedy in Jaipur: Pilot’s Mother P@sses Away on Son’s 13th-Day Ritual

Jaipur, Rajasthan – A wave of grief has swept through a Jaipur family, already reeling from the loss of pilot Rajveer Singh Chauhan in the recent Kedarnath helicopter crash. On the 13th day ritual (terahvi) of her son’s passing, Rajveer’s mother, Vijay Laxmi Chauhan, also succumbed to her sorrow and died of a sudden heart attack.

The tragedy began on June 15, when Rajveer Singh Chauhan, a pilot from Jaipur’s Shastri Nagar, lost his life in the Kedarnath helicopter crash that claimed seven lives. The video of his final farewell went viral, moving countless people across the country. In the video, Rajveer’s wife, Lieutenant Colonel Deepika Chauhan, was seen in her army uniform, bidding her husband a tearful goodbye and clinging to his mortal remains.

The family had barely begun to recover from Rajveer’s loss when another tragedy struck. On the day of Rajveer’s 13th-day death ritual, his mother Vijay Laxmi was busy preparing food for the Brahmin feast, an important part of the ceremony. As relatives arrived from Bikaner, Vijay Laxmi became overwhelmed with emotion, broke down in tears, and suddenly complained of severe chest pain. The family rushed her to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Neighbors and friends said Vijay Laxmi simply could not bear the shock of her son’s untimely death. Her last rites were performed in the evening at Chandpol crematorium, attended by family members, relatives, neighbors, and a large contingent of army officers and soldiers. Lieutenant Colonel Deepika, Rajveer’s wife, was present in her uniform, continuously caressing her husband’s body during the funeral, a sight that brought tears to everyone present.

Rajveer Singh Chauhan, a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Army, had taken up a job as a civilian pilot. His wife Deepika continues to serve as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army. During Rajveer’s funeral procession, his mother Vijay Laxmi had raised slogans of “Rajveer Amar Rahe” (“Long live Rajveer”) and tearfully touched her son’s photograph, not knowing she would soon join him in death.

The Chauhan family’s double loss has left the community in mourning, as they struggle to come to terms with a tragedy that struck twice in less than two weeks.
