Eight Dead, Several Injured in Horrific Road Accident Near College in Sambhal
A devastating road accident took place near a college on the outskirts of Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, leaving eight people dead and several others injured. The crash occurred in a sparsely populated area, some distance from the nearest settlement.
Eyewitness Account
Raju, a resident of Dhaneepur village, witnessed the accident. According to him, the car was speeding when the driver suddenly lost control. The vehicle overturned and crashed violently into the boundary wall of a college, causing a deafening explosion-like sound.
“When we reached the spot, the passengers were screaming inside the car,” Raju said. “But it was impossible to pull them out because the windows were jammed shut.”
Driver’s Negligence Suspected
Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi confirmed at the scene that preliminary investigations and witness statements point to driver negligence. “The car was over‑speeding. The driver lost control and the car overturned before ramming into the college wall,” he said.
Rescue Efforts Hampered
The collision was so severe that the wrecked car became embedded in the wall. Locals rushed to help but could not break open the doors. When police arrived, a JCB machine was used to pull the car free from the wall and cut open its doors.
By the time rescue operations concluded, five victims had already died on the spot, while others were rushed to the nearest Community Health Centre and later referred to Aligarh for further treatment. One critically injured passenger remains in serious condition, while a three‑year‑old girl miraculously survived with minor injuries.
Identification Through Aadhaar Cards
Police recovered Aadhaar cards from the wreckage to inform the victims’ families. SP Bishnoi stated, “The impact of the crash was so intense that car parts were scattered over a large area. Identification was possible only through the documents found at the site.”
Time Lost, Lives Lost
The accident occurred around 7:00 p.m., only 400 meters from the local police station. However, it took about 25 minutes for officers to reach the scene. Residents said the delay in medical assistance cost more lives:
“Five people were still alive but writhing in pain. If they had received treatment immediately, many of them might have been saved,” one villager remarked.
The cause of death for most victims is believed to be excessive blood loss from deep injuries.
Local authorities have launched further investigations into the driver’s actions leading up to the crash. Meanwhile, the tragedy stands as another grim reminder of the deadly consequences of reckless driving on Uttar Pradesh’s roads.
