Flood-Affected Chittar Family Struggles for Shelter and Livelihood in Makeshift Home

A recent ground report has highlighted the plight of Saddam and his wife Jaitun, who have been living under dire conditions in Chittar, a remote locality severely impacted by frequent flooding.

When asked about their background, Saddam shared that he is originally from Chittar. He explained that he, his wife, and their three children have been residing in a temporary shack made of tarpaulin and makeshift coverings for the past two years. Their house, built in Chittar, is uninhabitable during the monsoon as floodwaters inundate their area, forcing the family to seek temporary shelter.

Jaitun, Saddam’s wife, explained, “It’s been nearly two years since we had to move here due to the water. My husband does not have stable employment—he sometimes finds daily wage labor in nearby villages, but there is no farming land for us. We manage by doing odd labor jobs when available.”

The family’s economic hardship is evident in their struggle to secure even basic food items. “Sometimes we go without work for days,” Jaitun added. The couple survives by working as laborers, barely managing to feed their children.

In a compassionate gesture, visiting reporters provided the family with essential food supplies, including flour, sugar, oil, salt, and soap, saying, “This is enough for a couple of days. We do what we can with the resources we have.” When asked if anyone else offers them help, Saddam responded, “No one really comes here to help us. We are mostly on our own.”

The reporter encouraged viewers to share the family’s story widely, hoping that greater awareness might prompt further aid for Saddam and Jaitun. The segment ended with a tour of their modest home, showing the extent of their poverty and the urgent need for support.

Residents and viewers are urged to share this story to help prompt further assistance for this struggling family in Chittar.
