From Stardom to Struggles: Bengali Actress Sumhar Chaudhary Found Destitute on Streets, Rescued by Locals

Famous Bengali actress Sumhar Chaudhary was recently found wandering the streets in a distressed and unrecognizable condition. Locals first spotted her seeking shelter from the rain by the roadside. Dressed in shorts and a black shirt, she was observed scribbling something on paper and speaking incoherently in English. Her disheveled state made it hard for anyone to believe she was once a celebrated actress.

When people approached her, she managed to say in broken words, “I am Sumhar Chaudhary, an actress.” Initially, passersby ignored her, mistaking her for an ordinary woman—until some decided to search her name online. What they discovered left them astonished. Sumhar Chaudhary had appeared in several acclaimed Bengali films, including major supporting roles in Dwitiya Purush and Khashi Katha – Egota Shaga, the latter featuring legendary actor Naseeruddin Shah. She also had notable appearances in TV shows like Rupasagare, Monare Manush, and Tomay Ashi Pase Thakle.

Locals soon realized that she seemed mentally unwell and repeatedly mentioned her work in films and television series. She has since been sent to a shelter home for her safety, while police are actively trying to contact her family. However, there has been no success in reaching any relatives so far, raising concerns that she may, unfortunately, have to remain in the shelter for an extended period.

This heartbreaking incident has sparked fresh conversations regarding the welfare and mental health support available to artists who once enjoyed the limelight. It has become a sobering example of how quickly fortunes can change in the entertainment industry.
