Haryana IPS Officer Smriti Chaudhary P@sses Away at 48

Haryana’s senior IPS officer Smriti Chaudhary has passed away at the age of just 48, leaving the police fraternity and her loved ones in deep shock. According to reports, Smriti had been unwell for some time and was on medical leave, undergoing continuous treatment. Despite efforts by doctors, she could not be saved and breathed her last in the hospital.

Smriti was in Nashik, Maharashtra, to visit her husband, Rajesh Kumar, who is also an IPS officer and currently serves as Inspector General (IG) in Maharashtra. It was during her stay there that her health deteriorated, leading to her hospitalization and eventual demise. Her last rites were performed in Nashik.

Originally from Dumarkha Kalam village in Jind district, Smriti was born on August 15, 1976. She later married Rajesh Kumar from Garhi village in Kaithal in 1998. The family currently resides in Panchkula.

Smriti began her career as an HPS (Haryana Police Service) officer before being promoted to the Indian Police Service (IPS). She was a 2012 batch IPS officer from the Haryana cadre and was serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) at the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Ambala at the time of her passing.

Smriti came from a distinguished family of civil servants. Her mother, Jaywanti Shivkand, was an IAS officer, and many other relatives in her maternal family have also held high-ranking government positions. Her grandfather, Chaudhary Basant Singh, was the head of a family with several officers, including her uncle Ramkumar Shokand, a retired college professor, and his wife, Jaywanti Shokand, an IAS officer. Her cousin Yashendra is also an IAS officer.

Smriti’s untimely demise is being mourned by her colleagues, family, and the wider community.
