Heartwarming Story: 93-Year-Old Man Buys Mangalsutra for His Wife, Jeweler Charges Only ₹20

It is often said that love knows no age, and a recent incident from Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar perfectly proves this adage. A 93-year-old man, Nirutti Shinde, recently visited a jewelry showroom to buy a mangalsutra—a traditional symbol of marriage—for his wife, Shantabai. What unfolded at the Gopika Jewellers store has touched the hearts of thousands across social media.

The elderly couple, currently on a pilgrimage for Ashadhi Ekadashi, stopped at the jewelry store. Initially, the staff thought they might be there to ask for help. However, the man humbly explained that he wanted to buy a mangalsutra for his wife. When the shop owner, Nilesh Khivansara, inquired how much money they had, the woman replied, “₹1,120.” The elderly man then took out a bundle of coins from his bag and placed it on the counter.

Moved by the couple’s love and simplicity, the jeweler refused to take any payment at first. However, after much insistence from the couple, he accepted only ₹20 as a token and gifted the mangalsutra to them. The touching gesture brought tears to the eyes of the elderly couple, and the emotional moment was captured on video.

Viral on Social Media

The video, originally shared by Gopika Jewellers on Instagram, quickly went viral. People praised both the deep love of the elderly couple and the generosity of the young shop owner. One user commented, “Such earnings are rare. With Lord Pandurang’s blessings, the young jeweler has gained a wealth that few ever achieve. Even in times of growing greed, good people still exist, proving humanity is not lost.” Another wrote, “No matter how much money you make, moments like this are what truly matter.”

A Testament to True Love and Kindness

The story has resonated with many, with users flooding the comments with praise for both the couple’s enduring love and the jeweler’s big-heartedness. As one comment summed up: “True love is from the heart, and age is never a barrier.”

This touching incident serves as a reminder that while the world may be changing rapidly, acts of kindness and genuine love still shine through, restoring faith in humanity.
