India Shocked by Two Disturbing Crimes: Custodial Death in Tamil Nadu and Acid Attack in Goa
Chandigarh University, known for opening new avenues for students through scholarships, is now bringing hope to Uttar Pradesh with its new campus. As the university spreads its light of opportunity, the nation is gripped by two distressing crime stories that have sparked widespread outrage and debate.
First Story: Shocking Custodial Death in Tamil Nadu
A recent incident from Tamil Nadu has sent shockwaves across the country. A video that surfaced online shows four policemen brutally beating a man named Ajit inside a police custody room. The footage, secretly captured from behind a wall, reveals Ajit being assaulted with plastic pipes and steel rods. Despite his pleas of innocence, Ajit succumbed to his injuries.
The incident began on June 27th, when an elderly woman named Shivgami and her daughter Nikki visited the Madapuram Kaliyamban Temple. Unable to find parking, they requested the help of a 27-year-old security guard, Ajit, who parked their car for them. After returning from the temple, the women discovered that gold jewelry worth 80 grams was missing from their car. The police detained Ajit and his brother Naveen for questioning but released them the same evening.
The following day, after the women filed another complaint, Ajit and his brother were picked up again. This time, Ajit was kept in custody, where he was mercilessly beaten. He died after being moved between hospitals. The police claimed in their FIR that Ajit confessed to the theft and tried to escape from custody, leading to his fatal injuries. However, the video evidence contradicts the police narrative, showing clear custodial torture.
Postmortem reports revealed over 40 visible injuries on Ajit’s body, with internal wounds cited as the cause of death. This is reportedly the 31st custodial death in Tamil Nadu in the past four years. The Madras High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the case, and four policemen have been suspended and arrested, while the district’s Superintendent of Police was transferred. However, history suggests that suspended officers in similar cases have often been acquitted and reinstated.
The tragedy has left Ajit’s family and even the complainants devastated, with the mother and daughter expressing regret over filing the complaint that led to such a horrific outcome.
Second Story: Acid Attack in Goa Over Daughter’s Death
In another deeply unsettling incident from North Goa, a 17-year-old boy named Rishabh was the victim of a brutal acid attack while waiting at a bus stop on his way to college. The attacker, later identified as Nilesh, arrived on a scooter, wearing a black raincoat and gloves, and doused Rishabh with acid from a bucket, causing severe burns over 80% of his body.
The police investigation revealed that Nilesh’s 17-year-old daughter had recently died by suicide after a fallout with Rishabh, whom she had befriended at school. Believing Rishabh responsible for his daughter’s death, Nilesh meticulously planned the attack, purchasing acid and tracking Rishabh’s routine before carrying out the assault. Nilesh was arrested near the Goa-Maharashtra border and confessed to the crime without remorse.
Rishabh remains in critical condition at Goa Medical College Hospital, fighting for his life. The case has sparked a debate about justice, revenge, and the tragic consequences of taking the law into one’s own hands.
Both incidents have deeply unsettled the nation, raising questions about police brutality, custodial deaths, and the cycle of violence and revenge. As investigations continue, the public is left grappling with the complexities and moral dilemmas surrounding these tragedies.
