Janhvi Kapoor Criticizes Supreme Court Over Order to Remove Stray Dogs from Delhi Streets
Janhvi Kapoor, the beloved daughter of late superstar Sridevi and film producer Boney Kapoor, has taken a bold stand against the Supreme Court of India. In a surprising move that has stunned the public, Janhvi publicly criticized the apex court’s recent decision regarding stray dogs in Delhi and the surrounding NCR region.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court issued an order mandating the removal of all stray dogs from the streets of Delhi and nearby areas, instructing authorities to relocate them to animal shelters within just eight weeks. The order immediately triggered outrage among animal lovers and activists, with Janhvi Kapoor emerging as one of the most vocal opponents.
Taking to her Instagram story, Janhvi voiced her displeasure and openly reprimanded the Supreme Court’s decision. She wrote, “They call this a threat. We call it a heartbeat. Today, the Supreme Court orders that every stray dog from the roads of Delhi-NCR must be rounded up and caged. No more sun. No more freedom. No more familiar faces to greet every morning. But these are not just stray dogs. They are the ones who wait for a biscuit outside your tea stall, who silently guard shopkeepers at night.”
She acknowledged concerns over safety and incidents involving strays but argued, “Yes, there are problems of dog bites and safety concerns. But caging an entire community of animals is not the solution—it is akin to erasing them. What is the real solution? Large-scale sterilization programs, regular vaccination drives, community feeding zones, and adoption campaigns.”
Janhvi’s heartfelt post quickly gained traction, being shared by thousands of her followers. Other Bollywood celebrities, such as Raveena Tandon and Varun Dhawan, have also expressed their opposition to the court’s directive.
Dog bite incidents have indeed surged in Delhi, sparking public debates and concerns. However, critics argue that neither the government nor the Supreme Court has addressed the root causes behind the increase. Animal rights activists warn that relocating dogs to shelters could lead to overcrowding, starvation, and high mortality rates, as many strays may not adapt to life in captivity.
Janhvi’s outspoken criticism has reignited the debate over humane and effective ways to manage the stray dog population in India, urging authorities to consider alternatives rather than blanket removal.
