John Abraham Criticizes Bollywood’s Political Films: Calls Popularity of ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘Chhava’ Alarming
Actor John Abraham has sparked fresh debate in the film industry with his latest comments on the trend of politically charged movies in Bollywood. During a recent interview, John raised concerns about the blockbuster success of films like “The Kashmir Files” and “Chhava,” suggesting their popularity is “frightening.”

In his conversation with India Today, John admitted he hasn’t seen “Chhava,” but acknowledges how both it and “The Kashmir Files” were embraced by the masses. However, he expressed unease, stating, “When films are made with the intent to manipulate people’s thinking in a hyper-political environment, and they receive massive audiences, I find that very scary.”
He further clarified his own stance as a filmmaker: “I have never felt the desire to make such films, nor will I ever pursue that path. We do need censorship, but there are questions about how it is handled. My experience with the censor board has generally been fine, but I have always made films with responsibility. I am neither right-wing nor left-wing, and I prefer to stay away from politics.”

John pointed out that the increasing dominance of right-wing narratives in cinema is concerning, forcing filmmakers to choose between chasing profit or staying true to their message. “As a filmmaker, I have to ask myself: should I just follow the money, or make films that truly convey what I want to say? I have chosen the latter,” John asserted.
Despite these views, John Abraham’s own filmography includes several patriotic and political stories, such as “Madras Cafe,” “Parmanu,” and “New York.” Known for prioritizing passion over profit, John remains admired by many, though his bluntness sometimes invites criticism and alienates sections of the audience.
