Marathi Woman Alleges Drunk Driving Incident and Intimidation by Political Leader’s Son in Thane

In a shocking incident that has stirred debate over language politics and women’s safety in Maharashtra, Rajshree More, a Marathi woman, has come forward with allegations against the son of a local political leader. The incident, which took place late at night in Thane, has sparked outrage, especially amid ongoing tensions between Marathi and non-Marathi communities.

The Incident

According to Rajshree, she was returning home late at night when a car repeatedly rammed into her vehicle. “My driver was at the wheel. The car hit us once, and then again, causing significant damage. CCTV footage from near my building can confirm this,” she said. Despite the collisions, the other driver did not stop. Two police constables assisted Rajshree in stopping the vehicle, which narrowly missed hitting three pedestrians and a dog.

“When we finally stopped him, he refused to get out of the car. He was half-naked, clearly intoxicated, and began abusing me with vulgar language,” Rajshree recounted. She confronted him about his reckless behavior, only for him to boast about his connections, saying, “Do you know who I am? My father is the MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) vice-president in Thane.”

Abuse of Power and Intimidation

Rajshree revealed that the man tried to bribe her, offering money to settle the matter and suggesting she visit Raj Thackeray’s house for compensation. “He kept threatening me, using his father’s political clout and party name,” she said. The man also hurled abuses at the police officers present, displaying a sense of impunity.

Community Backlash

Rajshree, herself a Marathi woman, expressed disappointment at the lack of support from her community. “Instead of support, I received abusive messages on social media for siding with non-Marathis. People accused me of betraying my roots simply for standing up for what’s right,” she said.

She also questioned the true intent behind political parties’ claims of protecting Marathi interests, highlighting the hypocrisy of advocating for Marathi culture while disrespecting Marathi women.

Demands for Justice and Protection

Rajshree has appealed to the Maharashtra government for protection for herself and her family. “I am scared for my safety. I want justice, not just for myself but for everyone targeted for speaking up,” she said. She also urged Raj Thackeray to take responsibility for the actions of his party members and ensure such incidents are not repeated.

Police Response

Rajshree expressed satisfaction with the initial police response, stating that her FIR was promptly registered and senior officers were supportive. However, she was dismayed to learn that the accused was released on notice despite the seriousness of the incident.

The incident has reignited discussions about the misuse of political power, women’s safety, and the ongoing Marathi versus non-Marathi debate in Maharashtra. Rajshree’s case highlights the challenges faced by those who stand up against injustice, regardless of community or political affiliation.
