Mukesh Ambani’s Right-Hand Man Leaves Crore-Salary Job to Embrace Monkhood
In a move that has surprised many, Prakash Shah, once known as the right-hand man of Mukesh Ambani and Vice President at Reliance Industries, has left his high-profile, crore-salary job to embrace a life of asceticism. Earning an annual salary of around ₹75 crore, Shah’s decision to renounce all material comforts for a simple, spiritual life has caught the attention of the nation.
Who is Prakash Shah?
Prakash Shah is a highly educated and successful individual. He completed both his graduation and post-graduation in Chemical Engineering from the prestigious IIT Bombay. At Reliance Industries, he held the significant position of Vice President and was considered one of Mukesh Ambani’s closest associates. His wife, Naina Shah, is a commerce graduate. The couple has two sons; one of them had already chosen a monastic life, while the other is married and has a child.
The Turning Point
At the age of 63, Prakash Shah retired from Reliance Industries. Immediately after his retirement, both he and his wife took initiation into monkhood, a process known as ‘diksha’, which involves renouncing worldly pleasures and leading a simple life in pursuit of spiritual liberation. Shah had long wished to take this step, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed his plans. Finally, on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, he took the significant step towards spiritual life.
A Successful Corporate Career
During his tenure at Reliance, Shah played a crucial role in several major projects, including the Jamnagar Petcoke Gasification Project and Petcoke Marketing. His dedication and strategic insight greatly contributed to the company’s growth and success. According to media reports, his annual salary at the time of retirement was around ₹75 crore.
A Life of Simplicity
Now 64 years old, Prakash Shah has completely adopted the life of a monk. He has given up all luxuries, walks barefoot, wears simple white clothes, and lives by alms. His wife, Naina Shah, has also joined him on this spiritual journey. Their initiation ceremony took place in Borivali, Mumbai. Today, their only goal is inner peace and spiritual liberation. Their simple and serene lifestyle stands as an inspiration to many.
What is Diksha?
