Opposition Leaders Raise Allegations Against Election Commission, Vow to Defend Voters’ Rights in Bihar

In a significant political development, key opposition leaders in India have accused the Election Commission of failing to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process, particularly in Bihar. The claims arose following a crucial meeting at the Delhi residence of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, attended by notable figures such as Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav and VIP party chief Mukesh Sahani.

The central concern raised was the alleged manipulation of the voter list—adding and removing names in a manner that favors certain political parties, especially the BJP. “The work that should be done by the Election Commission is not being done,” stated Mukesh Sahani. “Multiple voter names are being created and deleted. The BJP is stealing votes, but we are committed to fighting back. We will not back down.”

Sahani further highlighted that more than just a local issue, these alleged irregularities were a wider problem, affecting not just Bihar but also other states like Karnataka. The meeting, he said, was organized to discuss tactics for defending democratic rights and to prepare for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.

A particular point of controversy in Bihar is the Special Summary Revision (SIR) of the voter list, which the opposition claims is being misused to disenfranchise legitimate voters, especially those from marginalized communities. Sahani condemned the SIR process as unconstitutional, warning that unjustly cutting out voters’ names threatens the very soul of democracy enshrined in the constitution by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Despite discussions among alliance partners about possible actions, including a boycott, Sahani clarified that the opposition will not withdraw from elections. “We believe in democracy. We will fight this battle. We will not retreat,” he affirmed, reiterating the coalition’s faith in the people of Bihar and India.

The INDIA alliance leaders plan to intensify their campaign and monitoring efforts at every polling booth in Bihar to ensure transparency, with a state-wide journey under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, and Mukesh Sahani. Their fight, they insist, will continue from the streets to the Parliament until the integrity of the electoral process is restored and the rights of every voter are fully protected.

The opposition’s stand reflects growing concern over election manipulation in India and signals a united front to challenge any attempt at subverting democratic processes. The coming weeks are expected to witness intensified political activity and renewed scrutiny of the Election Commission’s role in upholding India’s democracy.
