Raksha Bandhan with Khan Sir: Hundreds of Sisters Queue to Tie Rakhi, Muslim Students Join Celebration in Patna
The spirit of Raksha Bandhan was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Khan Sir’s coaching institute in Patna this year, with hundreds of young women – many traveling from distant towns – waiting for hours to tie rakhi on the famous educator’s wrist. Social media buzzed with videos showing long queues, smiling faces, emotional moments, and music, as Khan Sir’s “sisters” marked the festival in their own heartfelt way.
For some, tying rakhi on Khan Sir’s wrist is an annual tradition; for others, it was a first-time experience filled with excitement. Many spoke with pride about their journey as students, with several aiming for esteemed positions like IAS officer and preparing for competitive exams under Khan Sir’s guidance.
One student shared, “I don’t have a brother, so every Raksha Bandhan I tie a rakhi to Ganesh Ji at the temple. This time, I wanted to tie it to Sir, who treats all his students like family.” Many others echoed similar feelings, highlighting the bond they have with their mentor.
Notably, the event drew students from different backgrounds. Several Muslim women also attended, some simply to meet Khan Sir, while others shared that Raksha Bandhan is not part of their tradition but they enjoyed participating in the festive spirit. “We usually don’t tie rakhi at home; it’s not part of our customs. But it’s beautiful to see everyone celebrate together,” said one attendee.
The day featured singing, laughter, and touching rituals, with the stage filled with songs sung by students for Khan Sir. Food was prepared in abundance, but for many, the highlight was the chance to honor their teacher as an elder brother.
Despite the large crowd—and the long wait, with some girls queuing from as early as 8 AM—the atmosphere remained joyful. Many emphasized that their only “demand” was continued guidance and best wishes from their beloved teacher.
The event not only spotlighted the bond between teacher and student but also illustrated the unity and inclusivity that festivals like Raksha Bandhan can foster. As one student aptly put it, “For us, today, Sir is like a big brother and a guide. This is a memory we will cherish.”
With smiles, songs, and symbolic threads, Raksha Bandhan at Khan Sir’s academy became a celebration of family, education, and togetherness in Patna.
