Russian Woman and Daughters Found Living in Remote Karnataka Cave for 14 Days

In a shocking discovery, police in Karnataka have found a Russian woman and her two young daughters living in a cave in the dangerous hills of the Uttara Kannada district. The woman, identified as 40-year-old Nina Kutina, had been residing in the remote cave for 14 days with her daughters, Prema (6) and Emma (4), surrounded by dense forests, wild animals, and far from any human settlement.

The incident came to light on July 9, when a police patrol was conducting rounds near the Ramteerth hills. Officers noticed unusual activity near a cave, which was partially covered with red curtains. Upon investigation, they found Nina and her daughters living inside, without any arrangements for food or basic amenities. Despite these harsh conditions, the woman was surviving with her children in a manner similar to that of a hermit.

According to police, a statue of Lord Shiva was found inside the cave, and Nina spent her days meditating and praying. To procure food and supplies, she would walk three kilometers to the nearest town and then take a bus to the market. During questioning, Nina revealed that she had developed a deep love for India, Hinduism, and spirituality, which led her to choose a life of seclusion with her daughters in the cave, away from public attention.

Nina claimed she traveled from Goa to Karnataka in search of spiritual solitude. She said she wanted to escape the routines of urban life and immerse herself in meditation and prayer in the jungle. However, authorities became increasingly concerned about the safety and well-being of the children in such an environment.

Further investigation revealed that Nina had entered India on a valid commercial visa, which expired on April 17, 2017. Despite her visa status, she continued to live in Goa before moving to the Ramteerth hills in Karnataka. Records show she also traveled to Nepal before returning to India and settling in various locations, eventually making her way to the cave in the Ramteerth hills.

Authorities are now looking into the legal and welfare aspects of the case, as concern mounts over the safety of the children and the expired visa status of the Russian woman.
