Shocking Attack on Shivpuri Shopkeeper Raises Questions on Law and Order
A sensational incident in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh has once again brought the region’s law and order into question. The brutal attack, which was caught on CCTV, occurred in the Bhouti police station area and has ignited concerns about the safety of ordinary citizens—and whether the law fears criminals more than criminals fear the law.
The incident took place when armed assailants attacked a shopkeeper following a minor dispute. The video footage clearly shows a group of men suddenly storming the shop. Acting quickly, the shopkeeper managed to bring down the shutters and lock himself inside, narrowly escaping the attackers.
Undeterred, the miscreants vandalized the shop from outside and even fired shots at the shutters with a country-made pistol. The victim, identified as Raja alias Rishabh Gupta, filed a police complaint with the Bhouti police station. The attackers have been identified as Pramod Sharma and Kartik Sharma.
Recalling the terrifying ordeal, Gupta said: “I was just sitting at my shop when five or six men arrived, accusing me of being a ‘goon’ and attacked me with sticks. When I protected myself, they tried to break in. They hit my shutters with axes and kicked and punched them, and then fired shots. Their intention was clearly to kill me.”
Gupta revealed that the motive for the attack stemmed from a previous altercation just two days earlier over some vehicles parked outside the shop. “My brother had questioned them for sitting on our tractor late at night. They were drunk and started abusing us. There was a fight, complaints were filed, and it was supposedly resolved—but then this attack happened two days later,” he explained.
Such violent incidents not only shake the confidence of the public but also cast a shadow on the effectiveness and responsiveness of the police. With criminals now brazenly flouting the law in broad daylight, big questions are being raised about the ability of the police to check such lawlessness in Shivpuri.
How much longer will ordinary people have to live in fear, and will the police strengthen their grip on criminals, or remain mere bystanders?
