A tragic plane crash near Ahmedabad Airport has left the city reeling in shock. The incident not only claimed lives but also wreaked havoc on the lives of resident doctors living in the vicinity. Among the affected is Dr. Anil Panwar, an assistant professor at UN Mehta Institute, who is now pleading for time and compassion as he struggles to salvage what remains of his belongings.
The crash site, which was once a residential hostel for doctors, has been cordoned off by authorities. Residents were given a strict deadline to vacate their quarters by 8 PM on June 13. Those who failed to comply were threatened with their rooms being locked. This ultimatum has left many doctors, who are already grappling with personal losses and trauma, in a state of despair.
Speaking to the media, a visibly distressed Dr. Panwar said, “I am not asking for much, just two or three days to shift my belongings. Is it too much to ask for basic humanity? My family has already suffered enough. My two-year-old daughter and our housemaid were caught in the smoke and suffered lung damage. They are still recovering in the hospital. How can I leave them and focus on moving everything overnight?”
Dr. Panwar and his wife, both assistant professors, were on duty when the crash occurred. Their daughter and maid were rescued by emergency responders and have since been hospitalized. Despite their personal challenges, the couple has been asked to vacate their quarters immediately, leaving them with no time to process the tragedy or make adequate arrangements.
“The house is completely burned. Whatever little is left – utensils, some clothes, a laptop, and a few valuables – I need time to move it,” Dr. Panwar pleaded. “We are not from Gujarat. I am from Rajasthan, and my wife is from Maharashtra. We have no family here to help us. Please give us a little time.”
The situation has been further exacerbated by the ongoing investigation and cleanup efforts at the crash site. Security agencies have sealed off the area, and even media access has been restricted. Yet, the doctors, who have been tirelessly serving patients, are now left to fend for themselves.
Another resident doctor echoed Dr. Panwar’s sentiments, saying, “We are medical professionals who save lives every day, yet no one is showing us any compassion. Many of us have lost everything. Our homes are destroyed, and now we are being forced out without adequate time to even gather our belongings.”
The crash, which occurred on June 12, has devastated the lives of many. The debris from the plane has caused significant damage to the doctors’ quarters, leaving many of them homeless and in a state of shock. Despite this, the doctors are being pressured to vacate immediately, adding to their already overwhelming burden.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the crash site soon, and authorities have intensified their efforts to clear the area. However, the plight of the affected doctors remains unresolved. Many are calling for immediate intervention and a more humane approach to the situation.
Dr. Panwar’s emotional plea highlights the urgent need for empathy in the face of such a disaster. “We are not asking for much, just a little time to recover and relocate. Please understand our situation. We are humans too,” he said.
As the investigation continues and the city mourns the loss of lives, the affected doctors hope that their voices will be heard and that they will be given the dignity and respect they deserve during this difficult time.
