Uproar at Gorakhpur Police Training Center: 600 Women Constable Trainees Protest Poor Conditions and Alleged Bathroom Cameras

On Wednesday morning, chaos erupted at the Gorakhpur Police Training Center as around 600 female constable trainees staged a mass protest, stepping outside the training premises in tears and raising serious concerns about the living conditions.

The trainees accused the center’s management of severe mismanagement, overcrowding, and even alleged the presence of hidden cameras in the bathrooms. One trainee stated, “There are cameras in the bathrooms. Our videos have been recorded, what will happen now?” Emotional and frustrated, many demanded to know why they had been called to a center lacking adequate facilities.

Testimonies revealed that while the center can accommodate only 250 to 360 trainees, over 600 had been brought in. The trainees complained about a lack of basic amenities: just one RO water filter for hundreds of girls, insufficient fans in the sweltering dormitories, and broken or absent bathroom facilities. Some alleged that the supervisors abused them verbally, adding to their distress.

“Why call us if you didn’t have the capacity?” one trainee questioned. “We’re forced to bathe in the open, we’ve had no proper drinking water for days, and there are bugs everywhere in the hostel.”

The situation escalated as senior police officials, including the training school’s trainers and the ADG, arrived on site to help restore order and listen to the grievances. The officers persuaded the trainees to go back inside and promised immediate action.

Addressing the media, IGPSC Central Zone Krutinder Singh refuted the hidden camera allegations, calling them “completely false” after a thorough inquiry. He admitted, however, that there were technical issues with the electricity supply, which had disrupted water supply and affected the hostel environment. Singh confirmed that a PTI (Physical Training Instructor) accused of misconduct had been suspended while an investigation is ongoing.

The police officials assured that training for newly recruited female constables is a top priority and that the situation will be improved without delay. The authorities have also pledged strict action against those spreading rumors or indiscipline on social media.

The incident has sparked a wider debate on the infrastructure and conditions of police training centers, especially for women, and brought the need for reform to the forefront.
