Sensational Twist in Raja Raghuvanshi Case: Sonam’s Family Now Defends Her After a Month of Silence

The high-profile murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi from Indore, currently under active investigation by the Shillong Police, has taken a shocking turn. After a month of intense probing across multiple states including Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, and with eight suspects in custody, the case seemed close to resolution. However, new revelations have stirred public attention once again—this time involving the accused Sonam Raghuvanshi’s own family.

In the early days following Sonam’s arrest, her brother Govind distanced himself from her publicly. He even appeared in a press conference with Raja’s brother Vipin, stating Sonam had confessed, the evidence was undeniable, and the family had cut all ties with her. Govind further pledged to appoint a lawyer for Raja’s justice and made it clear that their loyalty now lay with the victim’s family.

But everything changed when a new lawyer, Faizan Khan, stepped forward to defend Sonam. Shortly after his involvement, Sonam’s parents, who had remained silent until now, suddenly appeared in front of the media, reversing their earlier position and vowing to support their daughter fully.

In an emotional interview, Sonam’s father Devi Singh Raghuvanshi questioned the entire investigation. He said, “We want to meet our daughter and ask her ourselves—who killed Raja, and why? If she confesses again, we will stop there. But something doesn’t feel right. It seems someone else is at fault, and the blame is being pushed onto our daughter.”

Sonam’s mother, Sunita Raghuvanshi, echoed this sentiment. She outright denied any romantic involvement between Sonam and Raja, calling the alleged affair “a complete fabrication.” According to her, “Raja earned 17,000–18,000 rupees a month. My daughter earns lakhs. Why would she marry someone like him? There was no relationship.”

However, their claims contradict Sonam’s own reported confession to the police, where she admitted to the affair and said her family was fully aware of it. The couple had gone on a honeymoon to Meghalaya, and while the family claims Raja booked the tickets, police records suggest Sonam booked them online—another contradiction that deepens the mystery.

The mother described Sonam as an obedient, focused girl who never strayed from her routine—home, office, and nothing in between. She claimed that the marriage was arranged only after both Raja and Sonam gave mutual consent, following hours of discussion between the families.

Adding further confusion, Govind, who once denounced his sister, also changed his stance. He now claims Sonam and Raja only had a professional relationship at work. “They had no personal involvement. They worked honestly, and that’s all,” he said.

The biggest question now is: why did the family change their narrative so dramatically? Many speculate that the shift is due to legal advice, especially since their new lawyer has begun mounting a defense strategy.

Despite the family’s defense, the police maintain that their evidence is solid. They’ve collected CCTV footage, arrested an Indore-based broker who allegedly hid Sonam, and recovered her laptop, jewelry, cash, and even a pistol believed to have been part of the murder plot. A black bag with burned documents was also seized.

The police assert that these findings, along with multiple confessions from the suspects, form a strong case. However, the family now claims that Sonam has been wrongly implicated, and they’re determined to clear her name. Sonam’s father insists: “We believe there’s someone else behind this, and we’ll fight to prove it.”

As the legal battle heats up, Shillong Police may summon Sonam’s family for further questioning. While the charge sheet is prepared and the trial looms, public opinion is sharply divided. Is Sonam a cold-hearted murderer as initially believed—or is she being used as a scapegoat in a much deeper conspiracy?
