Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Keshav Bhadana Shares His Heart-Wrenching Ordeal While Dining With Friends
Keshav Bhadana, a second-year MBBS student at BJ Medical College, Faridabad, was enjoying a regular lunch with friends in the college mess when tragedy struck in the form of the devastating Ahmedabad plane crash. Today, he recounts the terrifying moments and the lasting trauma from that fateful day.

Lunch Turns to Horror
“Our lunch break is usually from 1 to 2 PM,” Keshav recalls. “Around 1:30, we had just sat down with our food when suddenly, everything changed. Out of nowhere, the walls and ceiling began to collapse on us. For a moment, I thought it was a dust storm, an earthquake, or even a missile attack. It was pure chaos.”
As the building shook, Keshav instinctively shielded his face and tried to protect himself from the falling debris. “I saw torn suitcases and chaos everywhere. That’s when I realized—it must be a plane crash. The airport is nearby, so my mind went straight to that possibility.”
Injuries and Desperate Escape
Keshav suffered injuries to his hands, head, and legs as debris pinned him down. “The wall on my side collapsed right on me. I used my arms to shield my face, which is why I have stitches here. My lower body was trapped under rubble, causing deep muscle injuries.”
He wasn’t alone—about 50 students were in the mess at the time, with six at Keshav’s table. “Those who could move rushed for the exit. The rest of us, trapped and injured, screamed for help. To make matters worse, the kitchen gas cylinders started exploding, adding to the panic.”
Despite the pain, adrenaline pushed Keshav and others to find a way out. “We tried lifting the debris but couldn’t. When the kitchen fire spread, we slid out from under the rubble and finally escaped.”
The Aftermath: Loss and Survival
Outside, the atmosphere was filled with fear and confusion. “There was a crowd, but mostly local people and students who managed to escape. Everyone was screaming for help. I tried to get to my scooter to reach the hospital, but a friend took me there instead.”
It wasn’t until Keshav was admitted to the hospital that he learned the true cause of the disaster—a passenger plane had crashed. “Doctors managed the emergency well, and the rescue response was quick. But the real shock came the next day when I learned that some of my batchmates and close friends didn’t survive. Many others were seriously injured.”
A Visit from the Prime Minister
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Keshav in the hospital, offering words of comfort and assurance. “He asked about my family, my studies, and encouraged me to recover soon. He promised all possible help from the government. It was a source of mental strength to meet him.”
The Road to Recovery
Though recovering from his injuries, Keshav knows that returning to normal life will be difficult. “Going back to the same mess, sitting at the same tables—it will never be the same. We used to enjoy our time there, but now there’s a sense of gloom. Some friends are gone forever.”
Despite the pain, Keshav is determined to move forward, honoring the memory of those lost and supporting his fellow survivors. “It will take time, but I hope we can find some sense of normalcy again.”
