A Year of Sacrifice

After completing his 12th grade, Suhail’s family could only afford to send his elder brother to college. With dreams of higher education put on hold, Suhail spent a year driving his father’s e-rickshaw through the streets of Muzaffarnagar, helping support his family and save for his own studies. “That year, I realized the true meaning of struggle,” Suhail recalls. “Driving the rickshaw was tough, but it made me stronger.”

Discovering a Dream

Suhail’s journey took a turn when a friend introduced him to the NEET examination—the gateway to medical college in India. Learning that a good score could secure him a nearly free MBBS seat, Suhail set his sights on becoming a doctor, just as his mother had always dreamed. “My mother always told me, ‘You will become a doctor and help people,’” he says. “That dream became my mission.”

Overcoming Obstacles

Coming from a Hindi-medium government school, Suhail faced significant challenges, especially with English. “I struggled to understand lectures at first,” he admits. “So I started keeping a notebook of new words, learning 30-50 words a day. After five or six months, my English improved so much that I could follow everything.” Financial hardship was another hurdle, but Suhail found ways to study online, using affordable platforms and free resources. “Today, quality education is available online for just a few thousand rupees. If you are determined, nothing can stop you,” he encourages other students.

Perseverance Pays Off

Suhail’s path was not easy—he failed the NEET exam twice. But his determination never wavered. His relentless effort caught the attention of a prestigious coaching institute, which awarded him a scholarship. On his fourth attempt, Suhail scored 552 marks and finally cleared NEET, making his village proud.

A Promise to Give Back

Having experienced poverty firsthand, Suhail is determined to use his education to help others. “I know what it means to struggle. When I become a doctor, I want to support poor children so that financial hardship does not shatter their dreams,” he says.

A Beacon of Hope

Mohammad Suhail is not only the first in his village to pursue higher education after 12th grade, but now stands as a beacon of hope for countless others. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance, the importance of family support, and the opportunities that education can bring—even to those who start with nothing but a dream and a rickshaw.

A mother’s dream, a son’s hard work, and an e-rickshaw that changed their destiny—Mohammad Suhail’s journey is a lesson for every child who is tempted to give up in the face of hardship.
