Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh — In a major crackdown, Jabalpur police have busted a counterfeit currency racket operating out of a rented house, where crores worth of fake Indian currency notes were being printed using a home printer. The operation began when police received a tip-off about a man named Ravi Dahiya, who was spotted near a cemetery carrying bundles of counterfeit notes. Acting swiftly, police apprehended Ravi and recovered fake notes amounting to ₹2.94 lakh from him.
Interrogation led police to uncover a much larger network. The mastermind, Rituraj Vishwakarma, a 36-year-old BBA graduate from Kamti Imaliya village in Narsinghpur district, was running the operation from a rented house in Yashwant Nagar, Jabalpur. Rituraj revealed that he had been printing fake notes for the past 8-9 months, supplying them across Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, and Mandla districts.
The gang used a clever exchange system: for every genuine note, they supplied three counterfeit ones. Rituraj, along with his associates Dheeraj Manmani, Gaurav Tiwari, Santosh Srivastava, Ajay Naveria, and Satyam Patel, distributed fake notes to local contacts. For instance, Santosh Srivastava and Ajay Naveria received fake notes worth ₹12.5 lakh in exchange for ₹4 lakh in real currency, while Jamuna Prasad Patel from Shahpur was given ₹3 lakh in fake notes.
During the raids, police recovered a color printer, laptop, special paper, inks, and cutting tools used to manufacture the counterfeit notes. Rituraj confessed to designing the notes using basic software like Paint and referencing Wikipedia for details, before printing them on high-quality paper to mimic real currency.
City Superintendent of Police Sunil Nema said, “The gang used special paper to make the notes look authentic and avoid suspicion. We are investigating how long this operation has been running and how many people have received fake notes.”
All accused are currently in custody, and police are probing every angle of the case. The authorities are determined to trace the full extent of the racket and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
