A Holy Pilgrimage Marred by Violence

The Kanwar Yatra, a revered Hindu pilgrimage undertaken by thousands with devotion each year, has recently been marred by a series of violent incidents. In the latest case, a Muslim family traveling to visit relatives became the target of mob aggression after their car accidentally brushed against a Kanwar being carried in a crowded area. Although no one was hurt and the car passed safely, the Kanwariyas stopped the vehicle, demanded the driver’s name, and upon learning the family’s religious identity, erupted in anger.

Brutal Attack Caught on Camera

Eyewitness videos circulating on social media show the Kanwariyas smashing the car’s windows and doors with sticks before dragging the terrified family out onto the street. The mob, undeterred even as police arrived at the scene, mercilessly beat the men with sticks, fists, and kicks, while women and children screamed for help. The sheer brutality of the attack has left viewers across the country horrified.

Law and Order Under Scrutiny

Following the assault, local police registered an FIR against eight identified attackers and deployed additional forces to prevent further violence. The incident has reignited debate over the increasing reports of religiously motivated attacks during the Kanwar Yatra, with previous cases in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar involving forced identity checks and public humiliation of Muslim workers.

Legal experts point out that under Indian law, such acts of violence and intimidation are punishable by imprisonment and fines. Sections 114 and 115 of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) criminalize causing physical harm, while Section 351 addresses criminal intimidation.

A Call for Unity and Justice

As the video continues to go viral, citizens and activists are demanding swift action against the perpetrators and stronger measures to ensure the safety of all communities during religious events. Many are questioning why a sacred pilgrimage has become a platform for hate and violence, and are calling on the government to uphold the values of equality and justice enshrined in the Indian Constitution.

“This is Hindustan, a land of greatness and equality for all,” said a local resident. “No one should have to fear for their life because of their faith. The law must prevail, and those responsible must be brought to justice.”
