Morning Routine Turns Tragic

The incident took place on July 3rd, when Sangeeta Tikaram, a teacher at a girls’ school, was commuting to work on her scooter as usual. As she was passing through the 100-feet wide road in Sector 23, a white car driven by students struck her, causing her to fall violently onto the road. Instead of stopping to help, the students sped away from the scene.

Shocking CCTV Footage

The CCTV footage shows two students arriving on a scooter, parking it by the side, and getting into a white car. The student at the wheel appears inexperienced, struggling to control the vehicle. Moments later, the car collides with Sangeeta’s scooter, sending her flying. The students briefly stop, but then quickly reverse and drive off at high speed, leaving the injured teacher behind. Disturbingly, several passersby also ignore the injured woman, though a few eventually come to her aid and move her to safety.

Family’s Struggle for Justice

Sangeeta’s husband, Arun Malik, filed a police complaint on July 4th, expressing anger that the students chose to flee rather than help his wife. He revealed that the car’s number plate had been tampered with: CCTV footage showed the number HR10AH6078, registered to a bike, while the car should have had the plate HR10H6079, belonging to a white Baleno.

Arun took matters into his own hands, collecting footage from nearby cameras and submitting it to the city police station along with his complaint. Despite this, he alleges that police took no action for three days. It was only after the incident received media attention that police called him in and assured further investigation.

Questions Raised Over Parental Responsibility

The incident has sparked debate over parental supervision and road safety. Arun questioned whether the parents knew their children were taking the car out, and why the students failed to help the injured teacher or take her to the hospital.

Police Action and Public Reaction

Police have now begun investigating the case, but the delay and initial inaction have drawn criticism. The public is demanding strict action against those responsible, both for the hit-and-run and for tampering with the vehicle’s registration.

As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the need for road safety awareness and responsible behavior among youth.
