The Incident

On Tuesday afternoon, cousins Dhruv Kumar and Ajay Kumar were sitting by a 50-foot-deep dry well on their family’s farm, reportedly playing games on their mobile phones. Suddenly, Ajay’s phone slipped from his hand and fell into the well. In an attempt to recover it, Dhruv tied a rope around himself and climbed down. When he did not return for a long time, Ajay, concerned for his cousin, followed him into the well using the same rope. However, he too failed to come back up.

Alarmed by the absence of both nephews, their uncle Chandraveer rushed to the scene. Determined to rescue the boys, he descended into the well himself, but also lost consciousness.

Rescue and Aftermath

When the three failed to return home, worried family members began searching for them. Their worst fears were realized when they peered into the well and saw all three lying motionless at the bottom. Local authorities and rescue teams were immediately called to the scene. After more than four hours of a challenging rescue operation, all three bodies were recovered and rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that all had died due to suffocation.

According to Vishu Raja, the Additional District Magistrate of Firozabad, the tragedy occurred because the well contained dangerous methane gas. The victims lost consciousness and died after inhaling the toxic fumes.

Community in Mourning

The three victims—Ajay (son of Narpat Singh), Chandraveer (son of Kalicharan), and Dhruv (son of Dinesh Kumar)—were all in their early twenties. The village is in deep shock, and the family is devastated by the sudden loss of three young lives.

Government Response

Authorities have assured the family of immediate financial assistance as per disaster relief guidelines, promising ₹4 lakh for the bereaved family. Teams from the administration and the local police are providing support and have launched an awareness drive about the dangers of entering wells and confined spaces.

A Stark Warning

This tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the hidden dangers in seemingly ordinary situations. Experts urge people never to enter old wells or confined spaces without proper safety precautions, as the presence of toxic gases can prove fatal in minutes.
