Tempers flared and decorum collapsed in the Bihar Assembly as political rivalries spilled over into open abuse, finger-pointing, and near-physical clashes. The flashpoint came when RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was allegedly insulted with vulgar abuses by rival legislators—a move that triggered an angry outburst from his son, Tej Pratap Yadav, and a dramatic confrontation between the opposition and ruling party members.

The session began with regular debate, but tensions rose when BJP legislators reportedly hurled obscene abuses at Lalu Prasad Yadav inside the House. Tej Pratap Yadav was present and later lashed out, expressing outrage at the lack of respect. “How would it feel if we abused your father?” he retorted, warning that such a toxic atmosphere disrespects the institution and distracts from the people’s issues. “If I had been inside at the time, I would have given them a taste of their own medicine,” Tej Pratap fumed.

The situation rapidly escalated. Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu’s younger son and prominent opposition leader, was also present as tense exchanges turned personal. Allegations and counter-allegations flew over the legitimacy of a journalist’s question, with both Tejashwi Yadav and NDA leader Samrat Chowdhary refusing to back down. The angry debate snowballed into a shouting match, with RJD and BJP lawmakers storming out into the corridors, still trading insults.

Assembly marshals were forced to intervene and physically separate the warring groups as ministers tried to restore order. The chaotic scenes painted a troubling picture of Bihar’s political climate—with the RJD, Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), and the NDA on a collision course both inside and outside the House.

Tej Pratap Yadav did not mince words. He slammed the ruling BJP as a “goonda party,” linking them to extremist elements and accusing them of destroying democratic decorum. “They belong to the same ideology as Nathuram Godse, who killed Mahatma Gandhi,” Tej Pratap said. “They are flaunting their hooliganism for everyone to see. What would you do if someone abused your father in public?”

The drama was accentuated by lawmakers dressed in black, symbolizing protest and dissent. For four days, disruptions have rocked the Assembly, with opposition parties accusing the government of high-handedness, while the BJP continues to dismiss the allegations as political theatrics.

This episode shines a harsh spotlight on the breakdown of civility in politics—where personal insults and public brawls upstage the real issues affecting the public. As Bihar’s political battle lines deepen, many wonder if consensus and respect can ever return to the House.
