Bomb Threat at Delhi High Court Prompts Evacuation and Intensive Security Measures

A bomb threat sent via email triggered panic at the Delhi High Court today, leading to the immediate evacuation of judges, lawyers, and staff. The email claimed that three bombs had been placed inside the court premises, prompting swift action from security agencies.

The Delhi Police and bomb disposal squads rushed to the scene, thoroughly searching the entire court complex. The surrounding area was also cleared as a precaution. Fire brigade vehicles and ambulances were stationed at the site to handle any possible emergencies, with fire service personnel entering the premises to assist in the search and potential disposal of explosives.

Early investigations into the email revealed that it was sent from an unverified address, with names and language that appeared suspicious and difficult to trace. The Delhi Police’s cybercrime unit is actively probing the origin of the email and trying to identify the sender, though initial impressions suggest it may be a hoax.

The email also mentioned Friday prayers and referred to previous blasts in Patna, threatening that the bombs would be detonated between 2:00 and 3:00 PM after Jumma prayers. The threat specifically targeted judges’ chambers, raising concerns given the sensitivity of the location.

This incident evoked memories of the September 7, 2011 blast at Delhi High Court, which killed more than 10 people and injured many others. Previous bomb threats to the court have turned out to be hoaxes, but authorities are taking no chances this time.

Lawyers described how the alert spread quickly through WhatsApp groups, with judges instructing everyone to evacuate around 11:45 AM. The police, bomb squads, fire brigade, and ambulance services are all on high alert, ensuring no risk is taken until the premises are fully secured.

As of now, no official statement has been released by the authorities regarding the authenticity of the threat. The investigation is ongoing, and the court remains closed until further notice.
