A peaceful, faith-filled morning in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district turned to tragedy as a Bolero SUV carrying 15 devotees on a holy journey skidded off a rain-soaked road and plunged into a deep, murky canal. What awaited them was a wrenching, graphic scene: the Bolero, when finally pulled from the canal, revealed the lifeless bodies of 11 victims. Four other passengers, battered and fighting for their lives, were rushed to hospital—their injuries mementos of the trauma endured.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his deep condolences, announcing financial aid of ₹2 lakh for the bereaved families and directing officials to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured survivors.

“I pray for peace for the departed souls and a speedy recovery for the injured,” Adityanath wrote on social media. But even as prayers and promises were made, a heavy curtain of grief fell over the village of Rahara, where the journey of 11 lives ended in an instant.
