Drone Panic in Uttar Pradesh: Why Are Villagers Staying Awake All Night in Fear?

What’s Causing Terror in Uttar Pradesh Villages? Lately, there’s been a strange sense of fear gripping the villages of Western Uttar Pradesh. Residents have been staying awake all night, patrolling their streets with sticks and lathis. But why is there so much panic? What’s behind the fear of drones flying over their villages each night?

Unusual Drone Activity and Mass Panic

Reports show that over the last 15 nights, people in about 1500 villages across six districts in Western UP have barely slept. Instead, villagers have formed patrol groups, armed themselves, and kept guard on rooftops and at checkpoints, believing an outside threat is looming.

But surprisingly, their fear isn’t of thieves or intruders; it’s the sudden, mysterious presence of drones that has people anxious. Normally, drones are seen at events or used by police for surveillance. However, these drones were not being used for any such official or celebratory purpose.

How Did It Start?

The initial incident was reported in Rampur, where residents decided to solve the “drone mystery” themselves after spotting drones flying at night. Local men patrolled the area and finally managed to bring down one of the drones near Kotwali Tanda. On inspection, they found footage of village homes stored in the drone camera, strongly suggesting someone was using it for surveillance.

Link to Recent Thefts

Soon after the drones appeared, villagers noticed a spike in thefts—leading many to believe that the drones were being used to scout for valuables and plan robberies. What alarmed them more was the pattern: drones would fly at night and the thefts would happen early in the morning.

Authorities Step In

Police joined in the night patrols, suspecting a larger crime or even possible terrorist activity. After some investigation, they managed to catch two boys operating drones, but shockingly, both were minors. When questioned, the boys claimed they were just flying the drones as a hobby. While police were left baffled by these answers, villagers remained unconvinced that children alone could be responsible for such widespread panic across several districts.

Wider Implications and Special Investigations

With Uttar Pradesh not sharing an international border, concerns about terror links aren’t as pressing as in states like Punjab or Jammu-Kashmir. However, the growing number of thefts and the use of drones for possible reconnaissance can’t be ignored.

Due to these ongoing incidents, a special task force has been formed; police and villagers now coordinate on WhatsApp groups, sending instant alerts about any aerial activity. Loudspeakers have been installed at temples and mosques for quick announcements, and villagers have been warned against aggressive action without proof. Yet, the terror of unknown drones continues to haunt many villages.

What’s the Real Story?

Were all the drones truly being flown by children? Or is there a bigger conspiracy behind these coordinated drone flights and the spike in village robberies? For now, the truth remains unclear.
