From Holiday to Heroism: The Dramatic Rescue

Major Rohit was traveling from Jhansi to Hyderabad when he noticed chaos near the station’s lift area. A woman in a wheelchair had fallen and was screaming in pain—she was in active labor! Without hesitation, Major Rohit rushed to her aid.

“I didn’t think twice. I just ran to her and tried to understand why she was in pain. When I realized she was in labor, I knew I had to act fast,” Major Rohit recalled.

Improvised Delivery Room: Towels, Knife, and a Hairclip

With no time to evacuate the woman and no medical equipment on hand, Major Rohit quickly gathered whatever he could find: a pocket knife, some hairclips, towels, and cloth. He reassured the panicked mother, telling her, “Don’t worry, you’re safe with me. I’ll get you through this.”

Right there on the platform, Major Rohit delivered the baby, using a hairpin to clamp the umbilical cord and a pocket knife to cut it. But the drama didn’t end there—the newborn wasn’t breathing.

A Soldier’s Skill Saves Two Lives

Drawing on his clinical training, Major Rohit performed emergency resuscitation. After tense moments, the baby cried out—both mother and child were safe! But the mother faced further complications as her placenta hadn’t delivered. Using gloves provided by bystanders, Major Rohit manually delivered the placenta, stabilizing the mother.

Teamwork and Quick Thinking

Major Rohit praised the railway staff for helping maintain privacy and bringing essential supplies. Once both mother and baby were stable, he arranged for their transfer to a government hospital for further care.

The Indian Army was quick to celebrate Major Rohit’s extraordinary act. General Upendra Dwivedi personally met and commended him for his selfless commitment and professional excellence, calling it a shining example of the Army’s dedication to the people.

A Real-Life Inspiration

Major Rohit’s quick thinking and bravery turned a potential tragedy into a miracle, saving two lives with nothing but his training, courage, and a few everyday items. “It was just God’s will that everything worked out at the right place and time,” he said humbly.
