A deeply disturbing incident has come to light from Naurangabad village under Dhampur police station in Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh, where a husband allegedly burned his wife alive after 25 years of marriage. The case has left the local community in shock and has sparked renewed debate over the issue of domestic violence and women’s safety in India.

The Incident

According to police reports, the victim, Vandana, had been married to Chandrashekhar for about 25 years. Her brother claims that Vandana had been subjected to physical and mental abuse throughout her marriage. Despite several interventions and meetings by community elders, the abuse reportedly continued unabated.

On the evening of July 5th, another dispute broke out between the couple. In a fit of rage, Chandrashekhar allegedly locked Vandana in a room, poured a flammable substance on her, and set her on fire. Hearing her screams, family members broke down the door and managed to extinguish the flames, pulling Vandana out of the burning room.

The Aftermath

Vandana was initially rushed to a local hospital in critical condition and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday evening.

The police have sent her body for post-mortem examination and have taken Chandrashekhar into custody for questioning. Dhampur Circle Officer Abhay Kumar Pandey confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and that a case will soon be registered under stringent sections for murder and domestic violence.

Community Reaction

The brutal nature of the crime has sent shockwaves through the village. Locals are demanding strict punishment for Chandrashekhar and are calling for greater awareness and action against domestic violence. The incident has once again raised serious questions about the effectiveness of existing measures to protect women from abuse in their own homes.

Police Statement

Dhampur police have confirmed that they received a written complaint from Vandana’s brother, Vikas Rajput, who detailed the long history of abuse and the events leading up to the fatal attack. The accused has been taken into police custody, and further investigation is ongoing.

This tragic case highlights the urgent need for stronger laws and better enforcement to protect women from domestic violence. The community in Bijnor mourns the loss of Vandana and demands justice for her brutal murder.
