Kothari claims that instead of keeping their word, Shilpa and Raj used the funds for their personal expenses and for personal profit. This breach of trust, he claims, is at the heart of the massive fraud case.

Business Setbacks and Escalating Legal Woes

Shilpa Shetty had, years ago, collaborated with Raj Kundra to launch a TV channel called Best Deal TV. However, she resigned from her directorial position in 2016. The very next year, due to suspected irregularities, the company was pushed into bankruptcy proceedings.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first accusation of fraud the couple has faced in recent times. Earlier this year, the duo was named in a gold investment scam, where another investor accused them of dishonesty. Raj Kundra’s past is especially riddled with controversies—from being arrested in 2021 for involvement in a pornographic content case (for which he spent two months in jail), to being investigated for alleged connections to a Bitcoin fraud.

Raj Kundra was also previously banned from IPL cricket matches for his alleged role in betting scandals, adding yet another chapter to the couple’s mounting legal troubles.
