Mumbai Bank Employee Arrested for Allegedly Framing Colleague in False Rape Case, Demanding Rs 1 Crore Extortion

A shocking incident has come to light from Mumbai’s Charkop area, where police have arrested Dolly Kotak, a private bank employee, on accusations of falsely implicating her coworker in a rape case, putting him behind bars, and subsequently demanding Rs 1 crore in extortion for dropping the charges.

Dolly Kotak, who worked at RBL Bank, allegedly framed her colleague with a false rape case as an act of personal revenge. As a result, the accused colleague was sent to jail. The situation escalated further when Kotak demanded Rs 1 crore from the victim’s sister in exchange for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to secure bail. She allegedly threatened serious consequences if the money was not paid.

The case does not end with the false accusation. Reports reveal that Kotak also hacked into the victim and his wife’s mobile data, bank account information, and personal details. She reportedly linked her phone number to the victim’s Google account, giving her access to their locations, photographs, and banking information.

In May 2024, Kotak allegedly sent a threatening message to the victim, telling him he would “never win” and urging him to either pay or “rot in jail.” She did not stop there—she also cost the victim his job by sending false complaints to his office’s HR department, resulting in his forced resignation.

Despite repeatedly approaching the police for help, the victim reportedly received no immediate assistance. Eventually, he turned to the Borivali Court, which ordered Charkop Police to register an FIR.

Based on the court’s directives, police filed charges under various sections against Dolly Arvind Kotak, HDFC Bank employee Pramila Paas, and Sagar Arvind Kotak. The FIR was lodged under multiple sections, including the IT Act (308, 762, 66, CDE) and the Indian Penal Code (409, 511, 120B, 34). In total, six people have been named as accused in the case, with Dolly Kotak as the prime suspect. Her brother Sagar Kotak, Pramila Paas, and three other bank employees allegedly assisted in data theft and other illegal activities.

Police further stated that Dolly Kotak is also an accused in another extortion case registered at DB Marg Police Station. Meanwhile, her brother Sagar Kotak is out on bail from Malvani Police Station in an abduction and rape case involving a 17-year-old girl, registered under the POCSO Act.

Investigations are ongoing. This disturbing case highlights how personal animosity and the misuse of the legal system can destroy lives. It also raises important questions about the initial lack of police response to the victim’s appeals—a situation which forced him to seek justice through the courts.

Now that a case has been registered against the primary accused, there is hope the investigation will proceed fairly and the victim will get justice. The case serves as a serious reminder that filing false accusations is not only a crime, but can also ruin innocent lives, underlining the need for strict action in such matters.
