Rani Kapur has alleged that, while she was still reeling from her only son’s death, she was pressured behind closed doors to sign documents without any proper explanation or opportunity to understand their contents. In a letter addressed to Sona Comstar, one of Sanjay Kapur’s companies, Rani demanded the suspension of the company’s annual general meeting, expressing her frustration and grief over the lack of transparency regarding her son’s demise. “Despite all my efforts, I have not received any satisfactory or logical answers or documents related to my son’s death,” she stated. “I only know what has surfaced in the media. While we are in deep mourning, some people are trying to usurp the family’s legacy.”

Rani Kapur further claimed she was repeatedly contacted and forced to sign unfamiliar documents during her period of bereavement. She emphasized that—despite her repeated requests—no one ever clearly explained what she was signing. “Behind closed doors and under extreme emotional stress, I was compelled to sign documents without being told what was written in them,” Rani revealed.

Adding another layer of complexity, Rani maintains that she never agreed to include anyone on the board of Sona Group companies and alleges she has been denied full access to her own accounts. “I have been left at the mercy of a select few just to meet my daily needs—all of this took place less than a month after the passing of my only son.”

In a recent development, Sanjay Kapur’s third wife, Priya Sachdev, has been appointed as a non-executive director at Sona Comstar, further fueling questions and speculation both inside and outside the family.
