In a recent interview with Zoom, Jamie recalled the harrowing experience she faced during the early days of her career, when she managed her own work without the aid of a professional manager. She explained that her phone number was widely circulated among casting agents, leading to a dubious proposition from a man claiming to be an international film director.

“He called me and introduced himself as an international film director casting for a global project,” Jamie narrated. “He asked me to audition via Zoom—a very exciting opportunity for someone new in the industry, so I agreed.”

However, she soon noticed multiple red flags. The supposed director kept his camera off throughout the call, claiming he was in transit. He then told Jamie the role was ‘bold’ and gave her a scenario to act out: “He said, ‘Imagine a fifty-year-old man is in front of you, and you have to seduce him. If you want, you can take off your clothes.’”

Jamie was stunned. “The moment he suggested I undress, I told him I was uncomfortable and refused to do any scene without a script. I immediately ended the call,” she revealed.

Shaken by the encounter, Jamie realized how easily she could have been trapped and blackmailed if she had complied. “It struck me that he could have recorded the video and used it to blackmail me. That was the moment I truly understood how dirty the industry can get for unsuspecting talents,” she said.

Jamie admitted that, while she had never faced such incidents in Mumbai before, this incident became a scary lesson. “I survived only because I was aware and cautious—maybe because I’m a star kid. Had it been an outsider, they might have fallen victim,” she lamented.
