Russian Mother and Daughters Discovered Living in Remote Karnataka Cave for 14 Days—Police Uncover a Tale of Spiritual Obsession and Survival
In a story that sounds straight out of a movie, Karnataka police were left stunned after discovering a Russian woman and her two young daughters surviving alone in a wild, dangerous cave deep in the hills of Uttara Kannada district. The woman, identified as 40-year-old Nina Kutina, had been living like a hermit with her daughters—six-year-old Prema and four-year-old Emma—for 14 days, far from civilization, wild animals, and any basic amenities.
How Did They Get There?
The shocking incident came to light on July 9th, when a police patrol was trekking through the remote Ramteerth hills. Noticing unusual activity near a cave—marked by red curtains at the entrance—they peered inside, only to find Nina and her daughters living in complete isolation. There was no food supply or proper shelter, yet the family was surviving in the harshest conditions.
A Spiritual Pilgrimage Gone Extreme
Police found a statue of Lord Shiva inside the cave, and learned that Nina spent her days in prayer and meditation. She reportedly walked three kilometers on foot to the nearest town, then took a bus to the market for food supplies. When questioned, Nina revealed her deep love for India, Hinduism, and spirituality. She claimed she left the comforts of urban life behind to seek solitude and spiritual awakening in the Indian wilderness.
From Russia to Goa to Nepal—A Life on the Run
Records show that Nina entered India on a valid commercial visa, which expired in 2017. Since then, she had been living in Goa, before traveling to Nepal and then re-entering India. Her journey eventually led her to the caves of Ramteerth hills in Karnataka, where she hoped to find spiritual peace away from the world’s gaze.
Authorities Concerned for Children’s Safety
While Nina’s intentions may have been spiritual, authorities expressed serious concern for the safety and well-being of her young daughters in such a dangerous environment. With no proper food, shelter, or sanitation—and surrounded by wild animals—the children’s lives were at constant risk.
What Happens Next?
As police investigate further and coordinate with immigration authorities, Nina’s story has sparked debate about spirituality, parental responsibility, and the risks of extreme isolation. Her tale is a dramatic reminder of just how far some will go in search of peace—and how quickly a spiritual journey can turn into a survival story.
