Found Dead in Police Lines Hostel

Ranu Jadaun, a resident of Etah district, was undergoing police training at the Kannauj police lines. On Friday afternoon, her lifeless body was discovered in the bathroom of the women’s hostel, hanging from a rod meant for towels. Colleagues immediately alerted senior officers, and Ranu was rushed to the district hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

Disturbing Evidence on Her Phone

Doctors found a mark on Ranu’s neck, indicating probable hanging. But the real shock came when police examined her mobile phone. Investigators uncovered a series of video calls and threatening chats from a young man identified as Devesh (alias Devu) from Madhavnagar, Etah. In the messages, Devesh repeatedly pressured Ranu to quit her police job, even threatening her with dire consequences if she refused.

Family Accuses Devesh of Abetment to Suicide

Ranu’s devastated father filed a formal complaint, accusing Devesh of harassment and abetment to suicide. He claims his daughter was driven to take her own life due to relentless threats and emotional blackmail. Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for Devesh, who is now on the run.

Was It Suicide or Something More?

While initial reports suggest suicide due to personal reasons, authorities are not ruling out foul play. No suicide note was found, but investigators are analyzing digital evidence and questioning friends and colleagues to piece together the full story.

A Call for Justice

The tragic death of Ranu Jadaun has raised urgent questions about the pressure faced by women in uniform—and the dark side of toxic relationships and online harassment. As the investigation continues, her family and fellow trainees are demanding swift justice and stricter action against those responsible.
